From Happiness to Stillness

I’ve been creating my daily happinesses since 2005, a morning meditation that morphed into poetry and moments of delight and clarity for me.

After a few years, people were signing up to receive them (you can too) and then as social media developed, I was able to share them more widely.

They have morphed, however, over the years, and now they’re quite different from the original ones, even though the meditative process I use remains the same.

Over the past few years I’ve delved more deeply into the nature of Stillness.

I began to feel it was a truer experience, or even that it was what I meant by ‘happiness’ but that wasn’t what is the usual understanding of that word.

I went on a stillness retreat, that I wrote about a few years ago, and more recently I wrote my Ph.D. dissertation on how stillness can be used in transpersonal counseling.

I’ve also been calling my daily meditations “Stillnesses.”

The experience of writing them this way has shifted something within me, very subtly, and I am enjoying the change. I hope you are too.
