How do you receive news?
Are you amused, curious, or detached? Do you rage, gloat, or despair? There is another way: to be calm even when loud noises—either within or without your psyche—occur. Many studies show that through the intense practice of meditation eventually even an explosion set off right near your head will leave you feeling tranquil. Practice responding to information and sore events as though they were noises passing through you and dissipating. Practice being simply and serenely accepting of what exists. Receive the news in stillness and send it on its way with love. Then do what you can to alleviate suffering or share joy.
