What is the fragrance of stillness?
When I’m feeling disconsolate or tense, I like to trick my brain into remembering my ‘real’ state of being, which is stillness. I do this by uptilting my lips a little or humming under my breath. Using fragrance is another great way to quickly shift a mood. Lavender and lily-of-the-valley calm us. Orange and grapefruit fragrances uplift us. What’s a good fragrance for stillness? Yes, there are meditation fragrances, like sandalwood and myrrh, and rose is always centering and loving, but the important thing is to find your own ‘stillness’ fragrance. Choose an essential oil that you are drawn to — trust your intuition. Then get into the habit of combining your stillness practice with that fragrance. Over time, you’ll find you can enter into stillness much more swiftly simply by having a vial of your stillness fragrance handy.
