When I see old sunflowers against a stormy sky I’m reminded more than ever of the passing of the seasons. This has to be – a new era must emerge. For many of us, the end of summer is the most poignant transition, more intense, tender, and nostalgic than the ending of winter, spring, or fall. But we can find solace in feeling ourselves to be a small part of the ever-cycling motion of earth, sun, and stars. And at the heart of that motion is complete stillness: we can experience it by being present. This breath, this moment. Sadness, love, or planning take away from being fully here, breathing, loving, circling, expanding, passing through. Be here, be now, be at the center, be a sunflower.
