Stillness 8-29: Too often we get caught up in the tug of detail. It’s easy to get distracted by it: how much – when – which one? This distraction is the hardest part of clearing the clutter, whether it’s in a physical or a mental closet we’ve been tossing things into for years without paying attention. If we go through each item in the dark, one at a time, the task can feel overwhelming. Looking at the whole gestalt in the clear light of day makes it much easier to determine what to keep and what to let go. Sometimes just by looking up from a knotty problem, and seeing the bigger picture, is all it takes. Instead of focusing on all the intricacies and responsibilities, look around at the vast panorama of life, the ebb and flow, the stillness even in so much that needs doing.
