Even when you’re in motion—or perhaps especially so—you can let stillness center and enliven you. Remember when you first rode a bike? Wasn’t it the amazing feeling of being still while your body moved through space that felt almost miraculous? Especially going down hill: feeling the wind in your hair, the strength of your hands holding onto the handlebars … you were completely still while being carried through space! Such glorious freedom! Try to imagine that same sort of exhilaration in your daily travels, even if it’s going up and down stairs or walking to the grocery store. Practice being conscious of an inner quiet that stays present inside you while your body moves. If you’re in a busy airport, try sitting very still and simply observing the churning motion of people around you. The more you become aware of your own centered stillness, even when you’re in motion or at the center of great motion, the more rooted and relaxed about life you will feel.
