It’s not always easy, but when we let our feelings to envelope us completely we’re on the way to experiencing a much greater happiness. Too often we’re in a hurry, or too stressed, or simply too afraid to want to go deeply into our feelings. We feel safer skimming their surface or even showering them away. We imagine that if we let ourselves feel our feelings too much we might drown in sorrow and disappointment. But it’s not so! When we practice deepening our well of emotion we open ourselves to the love and joy that lives in the heart of stillness. That’s what expands and grows. Saturate your spirit with the experience of gazing at the starry night sky, or in a lively conversation, or feeling the wind in your sails. Allow your feelings to fill you up, like a great tide that covers your landscape, both interior and exterior. Really feel the roar of the ocean or the sweetness of someone’s loving touch on your shoulder. Inundate yourself with sorrow and loss and longing. Sometimes we can’t even imagine how deeply we can feel. Let your feelings flood you so that they expand far beyond your comfort zone. What’s amazing is that when we do this we actually feel less overwrought and roller-coastery afterward. We feel less muddied, emotional, and surfacey—instead we’re clear and crystalline. Our outlook is fresher and wiser. Even happier. Let yourself be permeated by your feelings. Soak them in … bathe in them … drench yourself with life at its fullest.
