4-19: Every morning when I wake up, I light a candle, say a prayer, then enter into meditation that allows my daily stillness to bubble up when it will. I honor my home, my friends and family, my planets, my flowers … I honor spirits, people who have died, and I welcome angels and goodness into my sacred space. For me, since the four elements are such a vital part of my explorations into metaphysics, I incorporate earth, air, water, and fire into the four corners of my space: I choose a crystal for the day to symbolize the earth element—my physical well-being; I place a feather in appreciation of my mental clarity; I fill a small glass with water that symbolizes my emotional, intuitive flow; and I light a candle in honor of my spirit’s fiery creative imagination. Actually, I don’t use a candle: I have a lovely cup that I fill with water and top with olive oil, then I light a small wick in it. The steady, still flame lasts for many hours—sometimes all day. The thing about creating a sacred space each morning is that it carries you forward throughout your day, no matter where you are or what you do—no matter what trials and tribulations you may face. Your sacred space remains there, in your heart, like a prayer: sustaining, reminding, and blessing you.
