A spider dropped onto the book I was reading yesterday and so we had a brief conversation. She reminded me of my dreams, my ideas, and my creativity. She reminded me that living life is like weaving a web—and so what kind of web do I want to weave? What does it look like and what is its purpose? We create our own reality—we weave the web we desire. Everything we encounter in life is a messenger to our spirit, and so I took the short visit from Spider as a friendly visitor from beyond. To deepen the message, this morning I looked up what Ted Andrews says about Spider:
“Spiders are keepers of the primordial alphabet and can teach you how to write creatively. Her body is shaped like the number 8 and she has 8 legs, which is symbol of infinite possibilities of creation. Her 8 legs represent the 4 winds of change and the four directions of the medicine wheel. Spider’s message is that you are an infinite being who will continue to weave patterns of life and living throughout time. Do not fail to see the eternal plan of creation. Those who weave magic with the written word usually have this totem.”
My spider reminded me how much I love to write. There’s a mystery and purpose to words and language that makes me feel curious and creative. And it doesn’t have to be for any purpose, except for the joy of weaving words, creating form and beauty with them. I love my spider totem! And I urge you to pay attention to any creature—no matter how small—who shows up for you, and to listen to what they have to say.
