Stillness 5-13: I think it’s so interesting that by changing our expression slightly our attitude changes as well. Our brains are literally affected by the tiny little muscular twitches and habits that live in our faces. It doesn’t always happen the other way around, the way we think it does (that our brains affect our expressions). Practice uptilting your lips when you want a boost of happiness. Or raise your eyebrows in wonder and feel the shift in your energy. I’ve been doing a lot of face yoga during these extra hours I’m discovering in my days. It’s fascinating how detailed and intricate our facial muscles are, and also how each affects us mentally and emotionally, as well as physically. One thing I’ve become aware of is how little I used to smile when I was alone. But now my ‘relaxed’ face has a uplifted feel to it, and it makes me feel uplifted inwardly as well.
