Stillness 6-28

it’s not about time – it’s about timing.

In our fast-paced, over-scheduled days and nights, we forget there is plenty of time. Much stress and worry is around making seemingly urgent decisions and feeling frustrated and anxious about the future. Let time be your friend rather than your sparring partner. In ancient Greece, chronos was the ticking-clock kind of time and kairos was a word meaning that it was the opportune time for action. Kairos had to do with timing rather than ‘what time is it?’ or ‘how much time do I have left?’ Notice kairos in your life. Feel a sense of timing rather than the inexorable ticking of a stern clock. Pay attention to the vast potential of time and space and feel it expanding out and around you. In the olden days, when a ship was getting ready to go to sea, sailors relied on the timing of the tide to carry them off the safe, sandy banks into unknown adventure. Nothing could be done without the tide’s timing, no one else’s. A sailor could choose to be frustrated or choose to be in tune with the tide. You can choose too: Synchronize yourself with what exists. Tune yourself into the rhythms of your tasks, your body, and nature around you. The future is a land of potentials and possibilities — there is great hope and amusement in wondering (not worrying!) about it as you creatively and lovingly manifest it. Let the mysterious, calming experience of synchronicity, intuition, and natural rhythms be your guide, your weather, and your ally.
