When you are thirsty, pause

Most of us are thirsty—for adventure, romance, or success, to name a few. Some are thirsty for the feeling that helping others gives us, or for security, or for love. There are all kinds of thirsts and they are all a part of being human. Essentially, our greatest thirst is to live our lives as fully and wholeheartedly as we can. Pause before you gulp in what you believe quenches your thirst. Let your thirst envelope you for a moment. When we stop trying to fill the sink inside our soul that feels depleted or sad, when we don’t shy away from our thirst by numbing or ignoring our unconscious, we learn real soul nourishment. We see that every accomplishment, every encounter fills the void of ‘it’s not enough.’ Every step, every breath is replenishment that quenches our enormous need for more. The wonderful thing is that there are wells we can drink from everywhere: we don’t need to wait till we’re thirsty to drink deeply from our source of life and love.
