This age-old question haunts all of us from time to time, and yet the more we understand the nature of stillness, the more the wondering can relax into an interest and curiosity rather than a fervent need to understand the mystery of life. When we look at the nature of water, we see that where it comes from is itself, in different forms. It cycles through stages of cloud and rain and continues its constant ‘seeking itself.’ We are no different: we come from ourselves and we are seeking ourselves. Sometimes we get so lost that we forget. In stillness we remember. It’s not where we come from that matters, nor where we’re going. It’s the stillness of presence and of the present that matters and is our matter. It’s being in the stillness that is our essence, even as we flow through our lives in accordance with our own true nature.
