When there’s too much on our plate, it’s a good time to slow down instead of speeding up. For some reason, when we have too much to do, we tend to try to rush and accomplish. But with regard to our energy output or success ratio, it can be as though we’re spinning our wheels. Trying slowing down—even becoming completely still. Mindfulness offers us more time, not less. Try mindfully pausing over your tea, even just for a minute. Or mindfully making the necessary (and possibly frustrating) telephone call rather than trying to rush through it. The surprising thing that occurs is that you discover you have more time, not less. You accomplish more. Instead of being overwhelmed or overwrought, you’re grounded. You stand effectively and strongly under the situation. You are understanding. You know you can carry it through.
