Our planet, our home

Every year, every month, every day brings us closer together. When I say ‘us,’ I mean not just friends and family, not just fellow countrymen, not just human beings. I mean bugs, sky, creatures, rocks, bees, and jungles. Yes, everything on this planet is interconnected and vital for our well-being. We can pretend to ourselves we’re far apart in ideology or miles. We can say what happens in a distant ocean or to a small bird in the deep dark woods doesn’t matter—but it does. Everything does. The more we attune ourselves to our interconnectedness, the more we know this to be true. Over the millenia we’ve focused on development of our individuation and logic. We’ve done this well. Now it’s time to balance it with our natural, intuitive, loving humanness. Now is the time to put ourselves back into balance. In our heart of hearts we know when one person suffers, we all suffer. When water is harmed, we all are harmed. Injustice to one person is injustice to all of us. Kindness to a helpless creature ripples in circles far beyond what we can imagine. But don’t feel overwhelmed by the enormous responsibility this places on each and every one of us. Simply finding ways to express healing love and kindness in our own lives, here and now, is a fine start. Let’s each do as much as we can to alleviate the suffering of those around us. Let us at least love and care for that small part of the world we come into contact with. Let’s do the best we can. Because that’s all we really can do.
