Untie some knots

If you’re feeling knotted up inside, or stuck in some way, take some time to imagine yourself getting loosened, pried apart a bit, jiggled, loosened some more, and then finally straightened out and untied. This is one of my favorite meditations. We sometimes allow ourselves to get so tangled up inside that we become practically paralyzed. We confuse this issue with that one, and can’t tell things apart. By untangling the various concerns, we realize that actually solutions are simple. There is progress. Things can become clear. It all does seem possible. One way to practice this is to ascribe a beautiful color to each of the things that are troubling you just now. At first you might think there’s just too much going on and you’re overwhelmed, but when you name each one out loud and give it a color, you’ll find that in reality there are less than a handful to contend with. Visualize these four or five colors and untangle them from each other. See each one like a lovely piece of yarn that is laid out before you, entirely on its own. And then deal with each one separately. Using colors in this way helps because not only can you easily distinguish the various issues but also color breathes light into everything.
