4-22: I was out walking after a blustery cold front had pushed through our valley when suddenly the setting sun broke from behind thick clouds. The bit of warmth melted an emerald field covered with tiny frozen raindrops into hundreds of thousands of colorful prisms of light. I couldn’t help smiling. Then I thought of this: no matter how sheltering in place feels to us, even at our lowest times, we can experience beauty, whether it’s in nature, or a song, or a favorite mug we’re drinking from. A friend told me she shops at a certain store because the produce and flowers are displayed beautifully, and that it’s like breathing sustenance just to look at them. It’s good to notice beauty as much as possible. Beauty strengthens, vivifies, lifts our spirit. To feel the harmony of the golden ratio in nature, in all created things, literally makes us feel better. Beauty lies at the core of our existence. We are acutely aware of synchronicity in vibration, in touch, in appearance. With so much time available, maybe we could consciously let us our voices sound beautiful when we speak. Maybe we could grow conscious of every lovely gesture we make. Certainly, we could notice the elegance and harmony in things in nature, but we could also notice it in everything we create, from the bread we bake to the fresh sheets on a newly-made bed. We can become ever more aware of the rise and fall of the symphony playing in the background and in life itself.
