A grand conjunction

Stillness 12-21-2020: This evening—our winter solstice—we’ll witness a rare astronomical event: a grand conjunction of the planets Jupiter and Saturn. If you’re on the east coast of the U.S. you can witness these two planets low in the southwest at twilight. They’ll appear almost as one great Light in the sky. The last time these planets were visible while being so close was 1226, and it will be several centuries into the future before they align this closely again in the sky.

Saturn is about the past and all the hard work we’ve done, our responsibilities, and our accomplishments. On a global level, our past year saw extraordinary activism and our dealing with a pandemic. On a personal level the transformations were just as evolutionary. Now all that energy will shift into one that is more Jupiterian: optimistic, expansive, benevolent, perhaps even joyful. Jupiter and Saturn are both planets of authority, in very different ways. They both show us how to take charge.

Yes, things are beginning to shift—the change in us already feels lighter and more hopeful. Bathe in the energy of the stars, no matter where you are, or how you think you feel. Our starry landscape influences us anyway, sometimes without our even being aware of how.
