Sometimes it’s hard to enter into something cheerfully and confidently. Whether it’s a boardroom or a party or even a lonely house, we sometimes shrink in that moment before, overcome by anxiety, self-consciousness, or insecurity. We’re taught to be so considerate of others that we forget to be considerate about ourselves. We’re taught to care so deeply about our appearance that we can never measure up. When we’re alone, we imagine that other houses are crammed with jollity and people celebrating—that we’re the only ones who aren’t. When these moments occur, try to shift your concept of how you show up in life. Consciously turn it around. Appreciate the space around you. Nod at the windows or trees graciously. Imagine a royal red carpet unfurling before you as you walk. Hold your head high, as though you were wearing a crown. Recognize your grandeur. You’re much more powerful, beautiful, and compassionate than you think. Take a deep breath. Then enter.
