Stillness 5-4

what seems strange may be friendly.

The less we are suspicious of what is unfamiliar, and instead embrace it, the happier we are. Our lives take on a rich, more complex and heartfelt patina. Most of us know this. Most of know that being open to the unknown and tolerant of differences is a good thing. Through stillness we can experience this excellent concept in a deeper way. Take travel, for example. Travel opens us to moments of stillness and wonder, when what is around us may feel unfamiliar and different. In that unsettled place of awe and amazement at seeing something we’ve never seen before, a part of us opens and expands into more life, more interest. The same thing happens in creativity: either enjoying or creating a beautiful song or eye-popping painting deepens our experience of the curiousness in life. Before it is shared, a poem or a book is an unknown stranger, but when it is read, it is friendly, kind, inspiring, and wise. What you thought was strange may actually be what you love.
