Stillness 6-2

no matter how small you feel — be a giant of kindness.

Sometimes we feel as though we have no power over our life circumstances. We can feel so insignificant, as though nothing about ourselves really matters. Nothing we do really makes a difference in the world. Yes, in the great scheme of things, we are miniscule. But there is something we can do that creates a great rippling effect on everyone we meet, on every creature, and on the world as a living, breathing being: be kind. When we are kind, we are friendly and good and we immediately start feeling more in harmony with life. The word ‘kind’ is connected with the word ‘kin,’  which reminds us that we are all connected and that our natural, native inclination is to feel benign and loving toward each other and all life forms on the planet. No matter how helpless or hopeless we feel, we always can be kind to a fellow-creature, or a tree, or a spider in our bathtub. We can also always be kinder to ourselves.
