Try tasting it

In our earnest, brave efforts to succeed, or accomplish, or stay healthy, or feel happy, we sometimes forget one of our most important senses, which is taste. My mother (whose birthday is today) taught me a lot of what I know about taste, including that the only truly important thing we need to know in order to cook well is to always use the freshest and best ingredients—how we concoct them is not nearly so critical. She also showed me how to taste life itself. She’d call an architectural feat ‘yummy’ or a painting ‘delicious.’ Clairgustance, which is a metaphysical way of experiencing taste, is often used in medium or psychic work, but it also can help us feel more connected to our intuition. Yes, we do need to avoid bitterness in our lives—just as our foraging ancestors learned. Sweetness is a sign of ripeness and goodness. Taste the wide varieties of flavor in your life today. See the colors surrounding you as flavor, relish the clothes you wear, savor the words you use… these all can be sweetness, puckery, salty, yummy, icky, delightful. Avoid bitterness. You are what you eat. You feel what you taste. Practice perceiving the world with zest and clairgustance.
